Well today was fun, started out in the rain, was pouring at 8 am when we were having breakfast, but by 9:30 when we started was just a drizzle and not so bad. Of course walking into breakfast and seeing all the cheese, meat, etc. sort of has you eyeing other items, but it’s great when I compare it with hotels I’ve had to stay at in the United States and their ‘complimentary breakfast’.
The hiking today wasn’t bad – two summits (500 ft each) but you are primarily walking on pavement or cobble stones. We did spend some time on a bonus trail from our book that added another mile or so, but it was different and a change of scenery. We are now on the main route (Lisbon) – our prior route was sort of a spur from the main so not a lot of people, now there are more.

The funniest thing that happened today was Cindy was faked out into eating a piece of a boiled egg. For those of you that know Cindy, boiled eggs are not her thing (at all!) – even the mere thought of one has her wincing. This time the culprit was a breakfast “pizza” bread that Cindy ordered at our first break for the day – thinking those chunks look like big pieces of (yes you got it) Cheese! This should be a great treat. Half way through Cindy realized she was conned into eating a piece, then promptly dug the other pieces out. To the passer by it was surgery being had at our table.

We saw more today of green fields, lots of grapes being grown, some cows and a very pushy horse – who seems well trained at getting treats from people on the Camino. Not really much else to say – thank god for mole skin as I have a couple of blisters but they are fine.

Checked into the hotel, took a nap, had dinner at 8:30 – Italian Again. Of course this brings us full circle to the morning – where we promptly ordered melon with about 1 ton of prosciutto, buffala motz salad, and of course a pizza with both cheese and more prosciutto on top. Tomorrows breakfast will be a challenge.
Tomorrow is 13 miles – but pretty flat and not much shade so we will leave early. It’s supposed to be 74F and sunny – so our first day of real sunshine so far.

Thanks for sharing another day on your beautiful hike. Sandwich surgery is a European tradition.
Stay safe and take care of your feet.
Love, Dad
