Well we weren’t back in Colorado for very long… We are now in Washington DC for the weekend to visit Gavin, and Hayden took the train up from NC to visit as well. It’s a quick trip, having flown in Thursday then we all leave on Monday – Cindy back to CO, I get a quick trip to Florida for work and return Wednesday. So figured a quick Sunday blog post might be in order…
Since we were coming to DC, we always tend to find something unique to do, and this time was no different. Our journey took us to a great exhibit “Planet Word” that talks / illustrates how language works and the origins of English. It’s pretty powerful, and the visuals are amazing.

Our next journey was that we were selected to visit the White House Garden Tour. By selected, I mean we were able to get in line early, stand in line for 2 hours (with out 4,000 others) and then get a free pass to walk the grounds of the White House on a garden tour. It’s something that is done twice a year. I’m sure Jill Biden is crazy busy getting all the trees ready, and I think Joe was out mowing the night before 😉 It was a really fun experience to be that close, they even had the marine band playing. Secret Service was about everywhere you could look – including microphones and cameras everywhere. it’s a pretty amazing thing to be walking around inside the fence and looking around.

Last night we ended up having dinner at Cafe Berlin with “Cousin Jeff” – who has lived here for some time now and works for the government. Some great German food and beer was had – although I’m not sure I could drink a formal German glass of beer, just too much. Before having dinner we walked by where Gavin worked in the spring as an intern for Michael Bennett (CO Senator), but also by the Supreme Court, and the Capitol itself. The sun was setting and it was a great sunset on the buildings – that time of day when the colors are really amazing. It’s been about 75F, so the days are outstanding. Today is 80F, so shorts are in order.

Other than that, today we have a mystery picnic tour, and dinner with Gavin and his roommate. Tomorrow it’s back to work. What’s fun at work is that we’re working on an opportunity in Morocco, so there could be some Moroccan adventure in our future. I do leave for Dublin/Ireland in about two weeks, and fly back on Halloween – fun to find out after I booked tickets that Halloween started in Ireland, so it’s either good I’m leaving day of, or I’m missing something great.
That’s about it, thanks for reading, of course some quick food pictures as well.
