Singapore – 1/2 Way Around my World Tour

Well yes I’m in Singapore (via San Francisco) for work and literally going around the world in 9 days. We are here for a couple of meetings Sun-Tues and I definitely need 2 days to get acclimated and the start of time zone adjustment period started. it’s 14 hours vs home so anything to improve is good. The trip door to door was almost exactly 24 hours, strange to leave Wednesday a.m. and arrive Thursday p.m. but all good.

Today I’m solo and spent the morning walking (after running 5k on the treadmill) – but by noon the heat started to set in and you can tell less and less people are walking around outside. I was sort of expecting New Orleans level of heat – but it’s not quite that crazy. It’s hot, but doesn’t knock you out like NOLA does. I generally played tourist this a.m. walking through the Arab and Chinese sections and wandering through a bunch of shops. I’ve also journeyed into a couple of malls just to check it out – nothing really special to see – but if I wanted a big screen TV or camera lens you could find it here.

What I have noticed about the city is how clean it is and quiet. Compared to NYC you don’t hear horns blaring and I haven’t seen any trash on the street, or a single homeless person. No one seems to have tattoo or piercings. Since Singapore was an English colony (?) English is widely spoken, they drive on the wrong side of the road and getting around is super simple. Of course you have to look to your left vs. right – and walk on the left vs. the right side, but that’s easy to get used to.

The hotel is very nice, and the breakfast bar has a full Ramen Bar so you put what you want into a bowl and then they cook it quickly for you. That’s tomorrows go-to for sure. There’s also the traditional english breakfast stuff – sausages, eggs, grilled tomatoes and beans if that’s also your go-to.

Anyway – i figured this warrants a post, so here it is. Hard to imagine that last week I was hiking around at 12,000 feet and now I’m here. Seems like the world gets smaller and smaller. What’s also cool here and something I noticed in Europe is that the news b.s. is not always in your face – it’s not constantly playing in the background somewhere of what today’s headline is.

I need to be in Lisbon in about 5 weeks, Cindy also needs to go to Nairobi Kenya – so trying to figure out if I just live on the road for three weeks and go with her – not sure I can though.

Hi. It is a lovely city. You are such a wonderful photographer, and I enjoy your beautiful pictures. 2 weeks and 5 days until I get this heavy boot off. Lots of PT after that. Hoping for the best.

    Can’t wait for more posts.

    Love, Mom
