TMB Hiking: Arrival and Day 1 We did it…

Ok, we made the journey to Chamonix yesterday – 60 mins by van. When you get here you are in awe of the glacier that is sitting above the town – the town is very busy with lots and lots of tourists – almost to a point of saying to yourself – please get me out of here. Which we gladly did today on our hike!

Ok, before I go further, Cindy has been having an ear ache over the past couple of days – actually thinking about it before we left Colorado :(. Last night wasn’t the best sleep for her (none) – given that our room was small, hot and the fan not so great – but I also noticed yesterday she didn’t really eat anything, nor today. And well on today’s hike she had no energy, nausea and wasn’t feeling well. She was able to do todays hike – crazy hard and pulled it off – but now I’m trying to figure out the next two days plans since where we are supposed to go tomorrow is much harder and we’re sort of ‘out there’ and cannot have anything wrong – so might make some itinerary changes 😦

Today’s hike was good, lots of down hill – pretty great scenery – reminds me of Argentina for sure. We did about 9 miles today, 2000 feet up, and about 4000 feet down. Since the top is at about 7,000 feet it’s not terrible given our hiking in Leadville at 11,000. There were lots of people on the trail going both ways and a great Refugio to stay at when you were down the ‘big hill’ – note that we had about 2 more hours to go. We took a less stressful path down for Cindy, which then turned into a street walk all the way to our hotel where we are now.

The logistics problem for tomorrow is that we are supposed to hike to Bourg Stain Maurice – which is very small – and from here takes 2 hours by taxi to get there – makes it impossible for Cindy to really meet me at our next spot – so the choice is split up and meet at the town after, or cancel tomorrow and just go straight over. Given the foreign country aspect and that well, she is my wife, I will probably elect to transfer with her and skip two segments so she can get better – of course that depends on her – she does get very stubborn – but this is the case where you cannot get worse and you have to have energy – e.g. cannot bluff your way through. So tomorrow we will see.

Other than all of that – some good pictures – people were training their dogs to hunt – pretty cool. It’s pretty much a ski area here – lots of lodging – not a lot of people around.

Fun times.
