Callander to Strathyre (9 miles)

Today started out great! – Woke up and looked out the window, expecting slight drizzle and surprise – I could see blue sky through the lifting fog. We stayed at a very nice B&B in Callander – owned by a nice younger couple – so things were a bit more modern than the night before. Excellent breakfast and we were off around 10, electing to leave a bit later today since the distance wasn’t so far.

Today’s journey was nice, but a lot of asphalt – which stinks on your back/legs/feet – but you walk along a lake for miles (Loch). It did warm up to about 54F – which is great if in the sun, but in the shade you could shave a few degrees off that – so you were always trying to find a sunny spot. We hiked about four miles, then there was a camping place that had a cafe – so stopped in for a brief snack. Then finished the rest of the way this afternoon. We did see a sheep or two, in fact several hundred (or two) sitting around in the sun this morning on our hike out of town.

The amount of greenery here is truly amazing. I think moss grows on everything – trees are everywhere and you can tell they don’t need to water to keep it all going. People were remaking about how sunny it was and how usually the rains have set in by now, etc. Generally it’s been fine, but I have a feeling in a week or two doing this might be a bit too cold or wet to make it fun.

Checked in on work briefly today – good and quiet so that’s great. Nice to see other folks leaning in to get things done as well – always appreciated and I have a really outstanding team.

Tomorrow is 12 miles – along a another loch – a little vertical, but not too bad. I’m hoping not a lot of pavement. The place we are staying in tonight is run by a great couple and they are making some light sandwiches (with brie) for us tomorrow for lunch. He’s Italian so it will be great.

That’s really about it, tomorrow is the midway point of this adventure already – can’t believe it. So far it’s been very quiet and peaceful – so we are enjoying it. Everyone is nice. No great monty python moments today – asked Cindy when we went through a gate if this is where the knights who say ‘nih’ live – I got a strange look πŸ™‚

We are glad all is going well and that you are having a great time. Have you picked out your tartan pattern for your kilt? I want to see a picture of that!
